There is no doubt about it, Whistler has an incredible community. Donating to local charities is one of the ways that many join together to share commitments, support causes and think about others. This doesn’t have to mean contributing in a monetary sense, many community members volunteer or fundraise as a means of giving back. As a result of the involvement and support of so many, local businesses and non-profit groups thrive here in town and in turn, better Whistler as a whole. Here are a number of local charities that need our support!

WAG (Whistler Animals Galore)

Founded in 1982 when the need for an animal rescue service in the Sea to Sky Corridor was identified, WAG has been responsible for the safety of those that cannot speak for 35 years now. Not only do they provide adoption services but they also impart lost and found animal services, foster programs, volunteer programs, and animal rehabilitation programs, making them an integral part of the community.

Whistler Blackcomb Foundation

The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is dedicated to providing support for non-profit and local businesses that are an asset to the functioning of the community. It has supported hundreds of amazing community charities through cash grants. Recently, Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts and his wife, Elana Amsterdam made a personal donation of over $300,000 to the Whistler Blackcomb!

AWARE

This member-driven charity works hard to protect our beloved mountain environment in Whistler, the Sea to Sky and beyond. This is done through speaking out about current environmental topics, building awareness, and empowering the community to participate in environmental preservation through education.

Get Smart Bear Foundation

Formed in 1966, the Get Smart Bear Foundation works on making co-habitation with the bears of Whistler possible. There are a number of initiatives that decrease human-bear conflict such as helping the public prevent conflict at their homes, championing policymakers to create Bear Smart communities, and encouraging police and bear managers to choose non-lethal bear management practices. As a result of their efforts and success, we have seen other communities implementing Whistler’s models of co-habitation.

Whistler Adaptive Sports Society

The commitment of this non-profit organization has enabled individuals with a disability to have access to sport, recreation, and therapeutic sport programming. Whistler Adaptive is not limited to Whistler and serves athletes from all over the world by providing the environment and support to participate. Over 16 sports are now safely available as a result of this charity!

Zero Ceilings Society Of Canada

Through employment and adventure-based learning, Zero Ceilings Society of Canada helps at-risk and homeless youth to develop healthy life skills. They partner with Whistler Blackcomb and The Adventure Group to have youth come to Whistler to go skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, zip-lining, and other activities in order to show them just how wonderful life in the mountains can be as well as learn!

Living in Whistler is so much more than just owning a property, there is a supportive and caring community to be part of too! Ready to immerse yourself in everything wonderful that the mountains have to offer? Let me be your personal dot connector to the Whistler community!
